"I've got very interesting news for the Tecnológico de Monterrey System. You've got such great patents numbers that you lead in patents. You applied for 47, 36 of them from the Monterrey Campus," stated Mayra Núñez, Mexican Industrial Property Institute Northern Mexico Delegate, during the closing ceremony of the 42nd Tecnológico de Monterrey Research and Development Conference (CIDTEC), when the Institution showcases and acknowledges its researchers' work.

The IMPI official stressed that this achievement has made the Tecnológico de Monterrey the private university generating the largest number of patents for the last 6 years, even outperforming public universities and agencies like the UNAM, the Cinvestav, and the Instituto Politécnico Nacional.

She also stated that the figures are largely ascribable to the Diploma course in Entrepreneurial Industrial Property offered at the Tecnológico de Monterrey since 2004, which has produced 11 graduating classes with over 70 professors and PhD candidates, 21 of which received their diplomas January 20 at the CIDTEC.

The number of patent filings by the Tecnológico de Monterrey has held steady over the last 6 years, with 20 filed both in 2006 and 2007; 46 in 2008; 37 in 2009; 50 in 2010, and 47 in 2011.
